Punishment Park*
Tying in with Duncan Campbell’s exploration of historical narrative, Punishment Park is typical of Peter Watkins’ radical approach to filmmaking, mixing improvisational, dramatic and documentary techniques to incredible and innovative effect. Pulled after only 4 screening in New York, it anticipates the conventions of reality TV, showing ‘ordinary people’ reacting to a highly charged situation in ways that are always credible and often disturbing.
