The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls
Where have these girls been all our lives? The Topp Twins is a joyous crowdpleaser celebrating the life and times of Kiwi icons Lynda and Jools Topp. The lesbian twin sisters have become national treasures with an infectious act of yodelling, country and western music and boisterous comic asides. Leanne Pooley’s documentary brings together a fascinating collection of archive material, concert footage and interviews with Billy Bragg and former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark. The more Pooley reveals, the more astonishing the girls’ lives become as entertainers and activists for gay equality, Maori rights, nuclear disarmament and anti-apartheid. To watch this film is to fall in love with it.
