Eyes Wide Open (Einaym Pkuhot)
Haim Tabakman’s intense, mature first feature explores the notion that religion can never quite legislate for the workings of the human heart. Aaron is a respectable kosher butcher in an ultraorthodox area of Jerusalem. He is married with four sons. One rainy day he offers sanctuary to Ezri, a strikingly handsome twenty-two year old student. He takes a shine to the younger man, offering him the hand of friendship and taking him under his wing. Aaron soon understands that what he feels is love. Torn apart by guilt and the unbearable pressure to conform, he must choose between faith and desire.
