The Girl On The Train
The latest film from Andre Techine creates a sophisticated, thought-provoking drama from a true incident in which a young woman fabricated an account of being the subject of a racist attack on a train. The story grabbed the front pages in France and seemed to reflect so much about the different cultures and classes within that country. Here Emilie Duquenne is the naive girl who lives in the leafy suburbs with her widowed mother Catherine Deneuve. A stormy relationship with aspiring wrestler Nicolas Duvauchelle drags her into a very different world and a life she can only rationalise by creating a story in which she is the innocent victim.
