The Greatest
Filled with echoes of Nanni Moretti’s The Son’s Room, The Greatest is a beguiling tale of a family’s all-consuming grief handled with restraint and maturity by writer/director Shana Feste. Carey Mulligan’s Rose has barely had time to savour her relationship with dream soulmate Bennett
(Aaron Johnson) when he is killed in a car crash. His death has a devastating effect on his mother (Susan Sarandon), emotionally reserved father (Pierce Brosnan) and younger brother Ryan (Johnny Simmons). Rose becomes an object of both curiosity and resentment in a beautifully
photographed tale of love and loss.
