Hipsters (Stilyagi)
‘Stilyagi’ was a term conceived by Soviet citizens to negatively label their ‘comrades’ who had an interest and passion in western culture immediately following the end of WWII. The war opened up the previously isolated country to an idea of what living on the other side of the iron curtain was like. However, the insight gained from Jazz LPs, movies of the era, and clothing was not the most accurate and realistic. An accomplished director and cast managed to turn the subject into a funny and ultimately romantic film that may be one if the best Russian films of the last ten years.
We are delighted to welcome Director Valeriy Todorovskiy who will be introducing the film and then will host a short Q&A session.
